So finally you decided to make that dream trip to Sin City! You must have heard a lot about this
place, many stories and things of “Las Vegas” and it’s not to scare you, but they are most often true. So I decided to give you a few tips to survive a weekend in Las Vegas. No matter whether you’re ready or not, the truth is that Las Vegas is always a new adventure! Whether you are traveling alone, with your family or with your significant other, Vegas is a good idea.
Tricks, myths and other things I did not know but I discovered on my first trip to Las Vegas, made me realize that this city is a lot more than casinos. And mostly, that it’s a power a lot bigger than I ever thought.
- The world’s largest casino is in Las Vegas: the Venetian Hotel.
- In the city of Las Vegas 500,000 people. The population growth has been 83% since 1990, while the prison population has grown more than 100%.
- The average temperature is 19°C in the city. Of the 365 days of the year, 211 days have a clear sky.
- Las Vegas has 124,270 hotel rooms, and the average price of a room in the city is $ 66.
- In the casinos, there are no clocks. Nor are you aware of when it is day and when night because there are no windows.
- It is said that the city of Las Vegas is the brightest spot of the earth seen from space.
- The city holds 315 weddings every day.
- The Moulin Rouge Hotel, opened in 1955, became the first hotel and casino in Las Vegas where black and white could mix.
- The city has 15,000 kilometers of neon lights.
- McCarran Airport Las Vegas is the 8th busiest airport in the world. They operate 51 different airlines, with an average of 980 daily flights.
When you walk on Las Vegas Strip for the first time, you’re totally impressed with the bright light and all the glamor and luxury of the countless Vegas hotels that dominate the skyline. Each of these hotels is like a city itself, with thousands of rooms, huge gambling halls, luxurious facilities and even some theme parks. When you have only a few days in Sin City, how could you see everything?
Choosing a hotel
Many people put special attention on this, but when you are on a budget, I have news for you: It’s not really that important. After all, that’s the place where you’ll be spending the least time!
I stayed at the Harrah’s, which was right on the strip, had an amazing view and was beathtakingly beautiful! There are choices for every budget, so if you are willing to splurge in other things, but not in a bed, you will miss out on the chance of sleeping in The Strip, but you will still enjoy all the benefits of it.
More than nightlife
Do not wake up too late! After a delicious breakfast buffet, it is the perfect time to take a walk along The Strip. This is the best way to see all that the city of Las Vegas has to offer. On the way, you can visit ultra modern shopping centers such as The Forum Shops and The Grand Canal Shoppes and admire its spectacular dressers.
Who said pool party?
Las Vegas is a city that never sleeps, you can find parties at any hour. Don’t give your body a rest and attend a pool party! Ypu can find DJs playing and great, crazy environment! Everyone loves sun and water, so don’t worry about the perfect beach body and instead get ready for the BEST day! The only bad thing is that these are not open all year, only in the summer and a few months later.
Theme Garden at the Venetian
The theme garden at the Venetian is a lot more than beautiful: it’s spectacular!
It’s one of the selected activities that can be for the whole family. With animated trees, squirrels and running fountains, it was truly a delight to watch. Obviously, I visited in the fall, but during the other seasons, it must be just as beautiful. I even ran into a newlywed couple taking advantage of the breathtaking scenery to get some romantic snaps of their wedding day. (and yes, it was a normal, pretty wedding, not the Elvis or Star Trekk type).
It takes nothing to visit, it’s free, and is an amazing venue to visit during the day.
The Mob Museum
Anyone who is a mob junkie HAS to visit this place.I don’t want to be a spoiler so I won’t give out much information. But the Mob museum presents the mob in the past, in the present, and a perspective into the future. If you really want to learn, live and feel the mob experience, you have to visit. You can check out times and themes here.
As is typical in all cities, a tour of the center can not miss on any trip. Especially if you find it a pedestrian street, the Freemont Street Experience, covered by a dome and a screen made of more than 12.5 million LEDs. On this street, leaving aside its shopping area, you can also visit the Neon Museum, with signs of old casinos and other business billboards.
Las Vegas after dawn
Saturday night is the time to see and be seen. While enjoying the nightlife in Las Vegas you will see celebrities in ultra sophisticated clubs and participate in gambling. Many of the best sites are within the same hotels. The night can start with a delicious dinner before enjoying excellent shows. After, you can visit one of the trendy clubs until dawn. After all, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!
Are you ready to spend one of the best nights of your life? This is not an understatement. The best parties of your life will probably happen in Las Vegas, not only because of the number of clubs, but because all the people who go to Las Vegas know how to put together a good party!
I went to have a few drinks at the Cosmo before going out to dinner (yeah, I was having drinks early). Since you can’t distinguish night or day when in Vegas, you get to enjoy on full magnificence the chandelier hanging from the, ahem… Chandelier bar. It’s 3 stories high, and the place is crowded with beautiful people!
If we talk about shows, we have to talk about the world’s most famous circus. As you may know, Cirque du Soleil performs daily functions of their main shows, but I went to Michael Jackson ONE. I have no words to express how amazing it was.
On the other hand, since the 50s, the musical activity has had a great impact on the city. Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra or Tom Jones offered regular concerts in local exchange for large sums of cache and thus avoided having to make tours. Now you know, if you have the opportunity, don’t miss out on concerts from amazing artists!
I also went to the Rock of Ages show, and all I can say is that I ROCKED HARD with the incredible music!
This is not necessarily a tip, but it’s something you’ve heard all your life: the house always wins. Perhaps you’ve gotten lucky at the blackjack tables, hit your favorite number at roulette, rolled the dice… But in the end, the house always wins. You can play any of the 122 casinos in Las Vegas. Beware the free drinks -boozing and losing go Together.
NEVER go into a table where the dealer is having a good streak, tip waiters, which will surely be hot and semi-naked (yes, no chill), enjoy everything in the casino… Above all, whether you’re winning or losing – always set a limit for either loss or profit. This will allow you to enjoy more your trip to Las Vegas and not waste away your money.
Strip clubs/ prostitution
Contrary to popular belief, prostitution is not legal in Las Vegas. The State of Nevada if you allow legal prostitution in cities of less than 50,000 inhabitants, so the brothels are around Las Vegas.
But within las Vegas, you can find some sexy, topless fun as well! I didn’t get to go to any strip clubs, but I would have loved to go to a Burlesque show, which is the sexy, provocative kind of show I’m into!
In many clubs in las vegas, there are strip clubs, topless joints or more “adult fun”. To be honest, when the sun comes down, you can find working girls in every hotel bar, but you must have into account that prostitution is not legal per se.
There are also other activities that are sure you will love: driving a Ferrari or some other exotic car along a track, see the Grand Canyon by helicopter, have a romantic dinner or just watch the show of the fountains at the Bellagio. I recommend you at least take part in 1 or 2 of these activities. All will be unique experiences and we are sure you’ll love.
